Blue Holes

Ngemelis Island, Palau, Micronesia

A system of four vertical openings in the reef flat north of Ngemelis, Palau, that drop into a large cavern connected through to the outer wall of the German Wall/Blue Corner reef. Depths from surface to ~35 m. Light shafts penetrate the cavern at midday. Observed species include reef sharks on the outer wall, reef fish on the cavern walls, and occasional schools of jacks. Advanced Open Water certification recommended; often dived as a combo with Blue Corner on the outgoing current.
