Cabo Douglas (Fernandina)

Fernandina Island, Galápagos Islands, Ecuador

The only place in the world where divers reliably encounter marine iguanas feeding underwater — at Cabo Douglas on the NW tip of Fernandina Island. Depths 5-18 m over volcanic rock ledges, with marine iguanas browsing algae at 2-12 m (only males dive; females forage intertidally). Also: flightless cormorants hunting, Galápagos penguins, sea lions, bullhead sharks. Cool-water site (15-20°C) — 5mm wetsuit minimum. Advanced certification and liveaboard required.
