A large amphitheatre rock formation on the south side of Aliwal Shoal, approximately 5 km off Umkomaas, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Maximum depth 27 m. Central crater-like enclosed area shelters from current. Signature site for ragged-tooth shark (Carcharias taurus) mating aggregations June-November when 10-20 individuals may rest in the crater. Other species include zambezi (bull) sharks, tiger sharks, potato grouper, and schools of trevally. Advanced Open Water certification required.
