Galápagos Islands
Darwin's Arch (Pillars of Evolution)
Darwin Island, Galápagos Islands, Ecuador
The most-dived site in the Galápagos — a small rocky islet 1,100 km west of Ecuador, reached only by liveaboard (1 day sail from Wolf Island, 2 days from mainland). The natural stone arch collapsed in 2021, but the site remains a dive site: whale shark aggregations from June to November (often 10+ per dive), scalloped hammerhead schools year-round, Galápagos sharks, silky sharks, eagle rays, tuna, manta rays, and bottlenose dolphins. Depths 15-40 m along the platform; currents can exceed 3 knots and downwellings are common. Advanced certification plus liveaboard experience essential.
