Halfway Rock

Laguna Beach, Orange County, California, United States

ReefIntermediateMax 30 m

Halfway Rock is the largest of several rocks off Cress Street Beach in Laguna Beach, about half a kilometre northwest of Arch Cove. Divers and freedivers reach the reef around it from the small beaches facing it: Cress Street, Mountain Road (a steep stairway just west of Mountain Road and Coast Highway) or Bluebird Beach (a ramp beside the Laguna Sands building). Depths around the rock run from about 30 to 100 ft. The beaches are small and can wash out at high tide, Bluebird has no lifeguard, and rip currents and submerged rocks are worth watching on the way out. The rock is inside the Laguna Beach State Marine Reserve, so no taking of marine life.
