Catalina Island, California, United States
A boulder-strewn reef about 5 miles west of Avalon off the front side of Catalina, known as one of the most reliable giant-sea-bass encounter sites on the island during summer aggregations. Depths run 9 to 30 m across kelp patches and open sand; kelp bass, sheephead, garibaldi, and occasionally torpedo rays round out the regulars. Typical vis 6-25 m, currents mild to moderate — an easy boat dive.
