Jackson Reef
Straits of Tiran, Red Sea, Egypt
The northernmost of the four reef pinnacles in the Straits of Tiran, between the Sinai Peninsula and Saudi Arabia. Emerges at the surface; wall drops past 40 m on the outer face. The grounded Cypriot cargo ship Lara (1981) lies broken on the north side. Observed species include seasonal scalloped hammerhead schools (summer), schools of barracuda, jacks, giant tuna, and manta rays. Advanced Open Water recommended.
