The Looking Glass (Broughton Island)
Port Stephens, New South Wales, Australia
A narrow natural cleft cutting through one of the smaller Broughton Island stacks, approximately 50 minutes by boat from Nelson Bay. The cleft is ~5 m wide with vertical rock walls, 16 m deep on the west entry and 21 m on the east exit. Known as a reliable winter grey nurse shark aggregation site. Observed species also include wobbegong sharks, blue groper, kingfish, and seasonal pelagics. Advanced certification recommended; single-file protocol through the cleft to avoid disturbing sharks.
