Noel's Hole

Poor Knights Islands, Northland

The cave walls support encrusting invertebrate communities adapted to the subdued light. Descending through the shaft, divers pass through a narrowing passage where the walls are packed with rock lobster and encrusting sponges. Territorial grey moray eel guard patches of reef, Lord Howe coralfish scour the hard surfaces, and red moki cruise overhead.
