Pipes is a large area of rolling hard-coral reef off the southern Coral Coast of Viti Levu. Waidroka Bay Resort dives it by boat and splits it into three separate dive sites. The reef slopes gently from about 3 metres out to roughly 18 metres. At that point it meets a vertical wall that drops to about 30 metres. Schools of batfish and red-toothed triggerfish work along the wall with fusiliers. Eagle rays, whitetip reef sharks and grey reef sharks are also seen here. The same reef carries a surf break called Pipes, so the shallow crest can break heavily in southerly swell. The wall section suits advanced divers comfortable with depth on an exposed outer reef. The exact position of this site has not been published, so the map pin shows only its approximate area.
