The exact position of this site has not been published, so the map pin shows only its approximate area.
The south jetty lines the Aransas Pass ship channel on the north tip of Mustang Island at Port Aransas. Divers enter over large granite boulders, which get slippery. The sandy bottom lies about 20 ft (6 m) down, depending on the tide. Barnacles, algae and crabs cover the rocks. Sheepshead, snook, damselfish and butterflyfish gather in summer. Kemp's ridley and green sea turtles visit. Tidal currents in the pass are strong. A longshore current builds a rip on the south side. Plan dives around high slack tide. Large ships use the channel and stir up silt. Visibility runs from fair to poor. Anglers fish along the jetty. Watch for line and hooks. The pin is near the base of the jetty.
