Port Ghalib Fishmarket
Port Ghalib, Marsa Alam, Red Sea Governorate, Egypt
Port Ghalib's house reef is entered from a sandy beach onto a reef at 5–20 m, with the outer edge dropping past 60 m. Turtles, boxfish and Napoleon wrasse are regulars, and a canyon at 45–70 m in front of the reef is a technical dive.
Port Ghalib Fishmarket is the house reef just south of Port Ghalib marina, north of Marsa Alam on Egypt's southern Red Sea coast. Beginners enter from a sandy beach and stay on the reef at 5–20 m, while the outer reef drops away to well over 60 m, so divers can choose a depth that matches their training. It can also be reached from the Port Ghalib Palace jetty by swimming south along the reef, or visited by day boat. Turtles, boxfish and Napoleon wrasse are resident, and divers regularly log lionfish, Red Sea anemonefish, parrotfish, pufferfish, butterflyfish and moray eels. In front of the reef, a canyon at 45–70 m is reserved for technically trained divers.
