Below the waterline, the reef extends from the rocky shore to depths of around eighteen metres, with kelp forests covering the upper sections and sponge-encrusted rock below. Territorial blue cod guard patches of reef, eleven-armed sea star scour the hard surfaces, and scarlet wrasse cruise overhead.
