Southwest Wall
Guanaja, Bay Islands
A south-side barrier reef wall west of Captain's Crack. The reef top lies near 11 m. The wall below drops past 60 m.
Southwest Wall is a barrier reef wall on the south side of Guanaja. It sits between Captain's Crack and Blacktip Slumberland. The 1997 mooring chart gives it a buoy. The Clearwater Paradise dive map lists it as site 19. That map puts the top of the reef at about 11 m. Below that the wall drops past 60 m. No published account describes its marine life in detail. Neighbouring walls on this stretch carry massive gorgonians and colourful sponges. Vertigo to the east is known for black crinoids. Boat rides from the south-side resorts to these sites take 20 to 30 minutes. Plan a wall profile with a firm depth limit. The face continues well past recreational range.
