Tory Channel
Marlborough Sounds, Marlborough
The channel walls and floor support dense communities of filter-feeding organisms that benefit from the constant current: massive sponges, colonial ascidians, and tube worm colonies. Rock lobster are abundant in the wall crevices. Schools of australasian snapper share the water column with blue cod, and eleven-armed sea star patrol the perimeter.
