Triangle Wrecks

2nd Street Beach Access (Milepost 7), Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, United States

The Triangle Wrecks — known locally as the Second Street Wreck — are a shallow shore dive off Kill Devil Hills on North Carolina's Outer Banks, lying about 200 yards off the 2nd Street beach access near Milepost 7 in just 14 to 20 feet of water. The site is the intertwined remains of two 1920s ships, the Greek tanker Kyzikos and the Swedish freighter Carl Gerhard, wrecked in the same spot two years apart; the rough triangle their wreckage forms gives the site its name. Scattered hull plates, large boilers and both engine blocks make it an easy, popular dive for snorkelers, freedivers and beginners, reached by a swim, kayak or paddleboard from the beach.
