The south pass of Fakarava Atoll — the most famous shark dive in French Polynesia and a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Depths 5-35 m through the pass with a wall of 500-700 grey reef sharks patrolling the channel, especially dense at the drop during June-July's grouper spawning aggregation. Drift-dive with the incoming tide; shark boil in the middle of the channel during spawning. Strong current; Advanced certification and drift-dive experience essential.
