Umm Gamar Island
Northern Red Sea, Egypt
A small rocky island ~45 minutes north of Hurghada surrounded by a rich fringing reef and steep walls — the best-known wall dive in the immediate Hurghada area. The south and east walls drop past 40 m with gorgonian forests, black coral, and soft coral cover. Frequent pelagic visitors: eagle rays, barracuda squadrons, Napoleon wrasse, and occasional reef sharks. The island has several sub-sites (Umm Gamar Nord, Foc, West, Shabrur) each dived as separate profiles depending on current. Visibility typically 25+ m. Intermediate to advanced; moderate to strong current.
