USAFS Vandenberg

Key West, Florida Keys, United States

A 524-ft former Air Force missile-tracking ship deliberately sunk in 2009 as the world's second-largest artificial reef — rests fully upright 7 miles south of Key West between Western Sambo and Sand Key. Sits in 43 m of sand; top of the giant satellite dishes at 15 m, main deck at 30 m, the bottom of the hull at 43 m. Resident goliath grouper, huge schools of amberjack, barracuda, and seasonal bull sharks. Advanced certification for depth; strong Gulf Stream current typical. Often called Florida's best wreck dive.
