Yellowfin Sea Bream

Acanthopagrus latus

The yellowfin sea bream (Acanthopagrus latus) is a medium-sized sparid fish reaching up to 45 cm. It has a silvery body with a yellowish tinge and notably bright yellow pelvic and anal fins that give the species its common name. Found in the western Pacific and eastern Indian Ocean from Japan to India and the Persian Gulf, it inhabits coastal reefs, estuaries, and brackish waters at depths of 1 to 50 meters. This omnivorous species feeds on mollusks, crustaceans, worms, and algae. It is an important food fish in Asian cuisines and a popular recreational fishing target. Divers in Asian coastal waters encounter schools of yellowfin bream around reef structures and harbor pilings, where their yellow fins flash attractively against the darker water.
