Magnus' Shrimpgoby
Amblyeleotris sungami
Magnus' Shrimpgoby is a small reef fish inhabiting the tropical waters of the Western Indian Ocean, from the Red Sea to the Seychelles. It is likely more widespread across the Indo-West Pacific. This species is recognizable by its elongated body, which features numerous small pale-blue spots and occasional small orange-yellow spots set against white spaces between its orange-red bars. It can grow up to 10 cm in length. Typically found on sandy bottoms of clear water reefs, this goby lives in a symbiotic relationship with alphaeid shrimps, sharing burrows with them. Although its coloration might catch the eye, Magnus' Shrimpgoby poses no harm to humans and is popular in the aquarium trade. Divers might spot Magnus' Shrimpgoby near sandy areas, often in proximity to its shrimp partner. The species is currently classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.
