Twobar Anemonefish
Amphiprion allardi
The twobar anemonefish (Amphiprion allardi), also known as Allard's clownfish, is a colorful clownfish reaching up to 15 cm. It has a vivid orange body with two broad white bars edged in black crossing the head and mid-body. Found in the western Indian Ocean from Kenya to Durban, South Africa, and east to Mauritius, it inhabits coral reefs at depths of 2 to 30 meters. This species lives in symbiosis with bubble-tip anemones (Entacmaea quadricolor), rarely venturing far from its host. It feeds on zooplankton, algae, and small invertebrates. Like other clownfish, it lives in hierarchical groups where the largest individual is the dominant female. Its restricted western Indian Ocean range makes it a special find for divers exploring the reefs of East Africa.
