Colorful Aeolid
Anteaeolidiella chromosoma
Anteaeolidiella chromosoma, commonly known as the colorful aeolid, is a species of sea slug found in various marine environments. This aeolid nudibranch features an orange body adorned with scattered white spots on its notum, while its rhinophores and oral tentacles are tipped with white. These distinct color patterns help divers identify it among similar species. The colorful aeolid inhabits the intertidal zones and has been recorded along the Pacific coasts of Costa Rica and Japan, as well as from its original description site at Deadman's Island, San Pedro, California. Typically, the colorful aeolid is found at depths shallower than 40 meters, with most occurrences recorded at depths around 30 meters. Its habitat includes rocky reefs and tide pools, where it can be observed grazing. The diet of this nudibranch primarily consists of small invertebrates, which it feeds on while navigating its environment. The colorful aeolid is known to be a hermaphroditic species, allowing it to reproduce effectively in its habitat. Diving encounters with the colorful aeolid can be intriguing, as divers may observe its slow-moving behavior as it glides over the substrate. This species has been reported from various dive sites, indicating its relatively widespread presence in suitable habitats.
