Caribbean Warty Anemone
Bunodosoma granuliferum
The Caribbean Warty Anemone, a member of the family Actiniidae, is found in the Western Atlantic, including regions like the USA, Canada, and Bonaire. As a sessile organism, it remains attached to substrates in its environment. This species is solitary and does not form colonies. It belongs to the class Anthozoa, which includes both gonochoric and hermaphroditic members. Reproduction involves the shedding of mature gametes into the coelenteron, followed by spawning through the mouth. The life cycle progresses from a zygote to a planktonic planula larva, which eventually metamorphoses, developing tentacles, septa, and a pharynx before settling. Divers encountering the Caribbean Warty Anemone can expect to see it firmly attached to substrates in subtropical waters.
