Liechtenstein's Goby

Corcyrogobius liechtensteini

Liechtenstein's Goby is a small reef fish belonging to the family Gobiidae, notable for its maximum length of just 2.5 cm. Divers can identify this species by its distinctive branchiostegal spot and the emarginated pelvic disc. It has a dorsal fin configuration of seven spines and nine soft rays, while the anal fin comprises one spine and eight soft rays. This goby is found in the Mediterranean Sea, specifically in the Adriatic Sea, around the Balearic Island of Ibiza, and the northern Tyrrhenian Sea. It inhabits subtropical marine environments and is often associated with demersal zones. Liechtenstein's Goby is harmless to humans and is classified as Least Concern by the IUCN. Divers may encounter this species on cave walls or potentially on offshore coralline grounds, where its small size and cryptic nature make it a subtle presence on the reef.
