Thread Shrimpgoby
Ctenogobiops mitodes
The Thread Shrimpgoby is a small reef-associated fish found in the Western Pacific. It typically inhabits depths ranging from 9 to 21 meters, often residing in lagoons and on silty, sandy, and rubble bottoms. Divers can identify this goby by its whitish body adorned with four longitudinal rows of dark brown spots, with the midlateral row featuring the largest and horizontally elongated spots. Notably, the anterior dark spots are often encircled by blue dots, adding to its distinctive appearance. The cheeks display a row of three dark spots, and there are oblique blue and yellow marks behind the lower edge of the eye, which continue onto the opercle and preopercle. A curved blue and yellow line or dashes extend from behind the upper eye to below the dorsal fin origin, and the lower part of the pectoral fin features an elliptical white spot.
