Dictyonella incisa

Dictyonella incisa is a sponge belonging to the family Dictyonellidae and order Bubarida. This species is found in the subtropical regions of the Northeast Atlantic. As a sessile organism, it attaches itself to substrates in its environment, making it a permanent resident of its chosen habitat. The sponge is part of the Demospongiae class, which are known for their hermaphroditic reproductive strategy. The life cycle begins with the zygote developing into a free-swimming parenchymella larva. This larva eventually settles on a suitable substrate where it matures into a young sponge. Divers may encounter Dictyonella incisa at various dive sites. Divers encountering this species should appreciate its presence as part of the diverse marine life in subtropical Atlantic waters.
