Alabaster Egg Cowrie
Diminovula alabaster
A tiny allied cowrie (a "false cowrie" of the family Ovulidae) that lives on soft corals, feeding on its host and often matching its colour. The smooth, inflated, egg-shaped shell ranges from pure white through cream to a pale peach or beige, occasionally with a faint orange blush. Only a few millimetres long and easily overlooked, it is a prized macro-photography subject.
