Eualus cranchii
Eualus cranchii is a species of broken-backed shrimp belonging to the family Thoridae. This shrimp exhibits sexual dimorphism, with males reaching up to 12 mm in length and females growing up to 22 mm. It can be identified by specific anatomical features, such as the carpus of the second pereiopod being divided into six segments and the absence of a mandibular palp. Additionally, epipods are present on the first two pereiopods, which helps distinguish it from other members of the Eualus genus. This shrimp inhabits shallow waters across the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. Most individuals are found at depths shallower than 40 meters, with 90% of occurrences recorded at depths less than 60 meters. Divers encountering Eualus cranchii may find it in various shallow marine habitats. Its small size and specific habitat preferences make it a species that requires a keen eye to spot.
