Gardineroseris planulata

Gardineroseris planulata is a coral species found primarily in the Indo-Pacific region. It is associated with reef environments and can inhabit depths ranging from the surface down to 40 meters. This coral is typically found in shallow reef habitats, often on rocky substrates such as walls or beneath overhangs in clear waters. Its distribution spans various tropical marine ecosystems. The life cycle of Gardineroseris planulata involves a planktonic planula larva stage, which metamorphoses by developing tentacles, septa, and a pharynx before settling on a substrate. This coral species belongs to the class Anthozoa, and its reproductive strategy includes both gonochoric and hermaphroditic members. Mature gametes are released into the coelenteron and subsequently spawned through the mouth. Divers encountering Gardineroseris planulata may find it nestled within the complex structures of the reef, contributing to the biodiversity and structural integrity of these ecosystems. The species is currently listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.
