White Mantle Glossodoris

Glossodoris buko

Glossodoris buko is a species of sea slug that belongs to the family Chromodorididae. This dorid nudibranch is characterized by its distinct coloration and internal anatomy, which set it apart from similar species such as Glossodoris pallida. Divers can identify this species by its unique appearance, which has been clarified through DNA analysis. It is typically found in the waters around Bilbil Island in Papua New Guinea, as well as Bohol Island and Luzon Island in the Philippines. This nudibranch inhabits shallow marine environments, with recorded occurrences at depths shallower than 40 meters, and 90% of sightings occurring at depths around 30 meters or less. Glossodoris buko is often found in coral reefs and other similar habitats, where it can be observed grazing on small invertebrates. Its breeding habits are not extensively documented, but like many nudibranchs, it is likely to be hermaphroditic, allowing individuals to mate with any other member of the species. Encountering Glossodoris buko while diving can be an interesting experience, as divers may spot this species clinging to the substrate or moving slowly across the reef.
