Kolombatovic's Goby

Gobius kolombatovici

Kolombatovic's Goby is a small reef fish native to the northern Adriatic Sea, typically found at depths ranging from 15 to 38 meters. It inhabits areas where rocky patches meet softer sediments, creating a unique environment for this bottom-dwelling species. Divers might recognize this goby by its fusiform body shape, which is adorned with distinctive orange spots and blotches. These markings remain visible even in preserved specimens, making it easier to distinguish from other goby species. The first dorsal fin of Kolombatovic's Goby is notable for its black blotch in the upper posterior corner. This species shares its habitat with other fish such as Gobius vittatus, Parablennius rouxi, and Thorogobius macrolepis. However, its presence is not rare, as it is a common inhabitant of its preferred environment. Kolombatovic's Goby is currently listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List. Divers exploring the northern Adriatic Sea might encounter this goby, often hidden among rocks and sediments, requiring a keen eye to spot.
