Narrowtail Moray
Gymnothorax angusticauda
The narrowtail moray is a moderately elongate eel with a distinctive narrow tail and a uniformly yellowish-gray body. Its dorsal and anal fins are edged with a white margin, and its head pores are distinctly white. The species can reach a maximum length of 57.5 cm. It inhabits the Indo-West Pacific, including the Red Sea, Taiwan, the Philippines, and Papua New Guinea. This moray eel is typically found in marine environments, preferring sandy and muddy bottoms at depths ranging from 1 to 15 meters. Divers encountering the narrowtail moray may find it nestled in sand or mud, where it often resides. Despite its predatory nature, it is harmless to humans. The species is known for its uniserial, short, blade-like teeth with serrations on the lower margins, which aid in its predatory lifestyle.
