Speckled Moray Eel

Gymnothorax dovii

The Speckled Moray Eel is a large moray of the tropical eastern Pacific, ranging from the Gulf of California south to Colombia and offshore to the Galápagos Islands. It reaches roughly 170 cm and is usually seen by day with only its head protruding from a reef crevice or rocky hole, its dark body covered in fine pale speckling. Like other morays it is a nocturnal ambush predator, emerging after dark to hunt fishes and crustaceans.
