Black Wrasse
Halichoeres adustus
The Black Wrasse is found in the eastern Pacific Ocean, particularly near islands such as Cocos, Revillagigedo, Tres Marias, and the Galapagos. This species is commonly seen in shallow waters with rocky bottoms, at depths ranging from 1 to 3 meters. It reaches up to 12.5 cm in length, making it a smaller fish that divers can observe in these environments. This species is harmless to humans and is not sought after by fisheries, allowing it to exist peacefully in its habitat. The Black Wrasse is listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List. Divers visiting these tropical waters may encounter this species, thereby helping to document its presence and contribute to marine biodiversity research.
