Kuhlia caudavittata is a tropical fish species found in marine, freshwater, and brackish environments. It is primarily known from the islands of Reunion, Mauritius, Rodriguez, and Madagascar. This fish has a distinctive appearance with an oval, high body that is laterally compressed and elongated. The dorsal fin begins at the same level as the pelvic fins, and the fish has a large, protusible superior mouth with prominent lower jaws and two spines on the opercle. Kuhlia caudavittata can reach a maximum length of 25 cm. Divers may encounter this species in various habitats, including coral reefs, rocky reefs, and lagoons, where it is harmless to humans. Encounters with Kuhlia caudavittata can be an interesting experience for divers, as the fish's unique coloration and body shape make it distinguishable from other species. Observing its behavior and interactions within its habitat can provide insights into its ecological role.
