Leptoseris explanata
Leptoseris explanata is a coral species found in the Indo-Pacific region, where it inhabits lower reef slopes and vertical walls. This coral is associated with reefs and can be found at depths ranging from 0 to 40 meters. Divers encountering this species may notice its preference for the shaded and vertical surfaces of reefs, which provide an ideal environment for its growth. The species is part of the family Agariciidae and order Scleractinia. Leptoseris explanata reproduces through a process typical of the class Anthozoa, where mature gametes are released into the coelenteron and then spawned through the mouth. The zygote develops into a planktonic planula larva, which eventually settles and undergoes metamorphosis. The species is listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.
