Leptoseris yabei
Leptoseris yabei is a coral species belonging to the family Agariciidae, commonly found in the Indo-Pacific region. This coral thrives in tropical reef-associated environments, typically inhabiting depths ranging from the surface to 40 meters. The species is often located in areas within the latitudinal range of 36°N to 31°S and longitudinally from 32°E to 180°E. Divers are likely to encounter Leptoseris yabei on coral reefs, where it contributes to the complex ecosystem of the reef environment. The reproductive strategy of Leptoseris yabei involves the release of mature gametes into the coelenteron, which are then spawned through the mouth. The zygote develops into a planktonic planula larva, which eventually undergoes metamorphosis. This process includes the early development of tentacles, septa, and pharynx before the larva settles on the aboral end. Leptoseris yabei is classified as Least Concern by the IUCN Red List. Divers may find this coral species at various dive sites, with a significant number of occurrences recorded at depths shallower than 20 meters, making it accessible for observation during dives.
