Lysiosquilla sulcirostris

Lysiosquilla sulcirostris is a species of mantis shrimp found in the Indo-West Pacific region, ranging from Madagascar to Japan. This crustacean inhabits tropical waters and is typically found at depths between 15 and 33 meters. As a member of the order Stomatopoda, it is part of a group known for their complex mating behaviors, with some species forming lifelong pairs while others only come together to mate. The males of this order produce sperm ducts rather than spermatophores, and females can brood up to 50,000 eggs. The eggs hatch into a planktonic zoea stage that lasts for about three months before developing into juvenile mantis shrimps. Lysiosquilla sulcirostris is a benthic species, meaning it lives on the sea floor, where it may be encountered by divers exploring sandy or muddy bottoms. Divers might spot this creature in its natural habitat, although it is considered harmless to humans.
