Adriatic Blenny

Microlipophrys adriaticus

The Adriatic Blenny is a small species of combtooth blenny found in the Mediterranean, Adriatic, and Aegean Seas, as well as the Sea of Marmara and the Black Sea. It typically reaches a length of up to 5 cm, making it a relatively small fish. Divers can identify this species by its size and habitat, as it is often found in shallow, coastal waters. This blenny inhabits demersal zones at depths ranging from 0 to 5 meters. It is well adapted to subtropical environments, often residing in rocky and coastal areas. The Adriatic Blenny is an omnivore, feeding on small invertebrates such as crustaceans, as well as detritus and algae. Its feeding habits and habitat preferences make it a common sight for divers exploring these regions. In terms of reproduction, the Adriatic Blenny is oviparous, with distinct pairing during the breeding season. Males are known to guard the eggs, which are adhesive and attached to substrates via a filamentous pad. The species is currently listed as Least Concern by the IUCN.
