Nembrotha mullineri

Nembrotha mullineri is a colorful sea slug that can reach a length of at least 50 mm. Its body is creamy-white adorned with longitudinal black-brown lines, while its rhinophores and gills are black, which helps distinguish it from other similar nudibranchs. This species is known to inhabit the waters of the Philippines, specifically in the Western Central Pacific region, and is typically found in benthic environments. Divers may encounter this nudibranch on coral reefs and rocky substrates, where it blends into its surroundings due to its coloration. Feeding primarily on colonial ascidians, Nembrotha mullineri plays a role in the local marine ecosystem. As a simultaneous hermaphrodite, it engages in a unique mating behavior where individuals may alternate roles during reproduction. Eggs are deposited on a suitable substratum, developing into a planktonic larval stage before maturing into adults. Encounters with this nudibranch can be intriguing, as divers observe its slow movements and distinctive features against the backdrop of reef life. Currently, Nembrotha mullineri has not been evaluated for conservation status, and there is no information on its population trends.
