Manyline Sweetlips
Plectorhinchus multivittatus
The Manyline Sweetlips is a reef-associated fish found in the tropical waters of the Western Pacific, particularly around Taiwan and northern Australia. It can grow up to 50 cm in length, although individuals more commonly reach about 40 cm. This species is typically found inhabiting coastal reefs, where it is known to form distinct pairings during its breeding season. The Manyline Sweetlips is oviparous, meaning it lays eggs, and is harmless to humans. Divers can encounter this species at various depths, with the majority of observations occurring at depths shallower than 40 meters. The Manyline Sweetlips is marketed fresh in fisheries, contributing to its commercial value. Despite its presence in the fishing industry, it is currently categorized as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List. When diving, spotting a Manyline Sweetlips can be an interesting experience as it is a common sight at many dive sites. Its presence adds to the marine life of the reefs, and its behavior, such as forming pairs, can be observed by attentive divers.
