It thrives in coral reef environments, inhabiting depths ranging from 2 to 15 meters. It reaches a maximum length of about 7.0 cm, making it a relatively small member of the damselfish family. Divers encountering the Similar Damsel will often find them in pairs, especially during the breeding season. These fish are oviparous, with males taking on the role of guarding and aerating the eggs that adhere to the substrate.
