Luzon Anthias

Pseudanthias luzonensis

The Luzon Anthias is a reef-associated fish found in the tropical waters of Oceania and the Western Pacific, ranging from Japan south to Australia and east to Vanuatu. This species typically inhabits coastal reefs and deep slopes, often forming small aggregations. Divers can expect to encounter them at depths between 10 and 60 meters, though they are most commonly seen between 25 and 45 meters. The Luzon Anthias has a fusiform, compressed body shape, which helps it navigate through the water with ease. It can reach a maximum length of 14.5 cm. The fish is characterized by its dorsal fin, which contains 10 spines and 15 to 17 soft rays, and an anal fin with 3 spines and 7 soft rays. These features can help distinguish it from similar species within the anthiadidae family. The Luzon Anthias is listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.
