Pseudopaguristes monoporus

Pseudopaguristes monoporus is a reef-associated crustacean belonging to the family Diogenidae and order Decapoda. This species is found in the Indo-West Pacific region, with a distribution that extends from Australia northward to Thailand and eastward to Guam. As a member of the decapod order, it is typically gonochoric, meaning individuals are distinctly male or female. The species is known for its precopulatory courtship rituals, which involve olfactory and tactile cues, and usually involves indirect sperm transfer. This hermit crab species is often found in intertidal zones, which are areas that are exposed to the air at low tide and submerged at high tide. Divers may encounter Pseudopaguristes monoporus while exploring tropical reef environments. However, it is considered harmless to humans and does not have any known human uses.
