Scorpaenopsis brevifrons

Its pectoral fin rays typically number between 17 and 19, although 19 is less common. The fish reaches a maximum length of 13.3 cm and is distinguished by a long jaw and a blunt head profile. Endemic to the Hawaiian Islands, the Bigmouth Scorpionfish inhabits coastal reef areas and sandy rubble zones. The species thrives in tropical waters with temperatures between 21°C and 27°C. As an ambush predator, the Bigmouth Scorpionfish primarily feeds on smaller fish and crustaceans. The IUCN lists this species as Least Concern.
