Spheciospongia inconstans

Spheciospongia inconstans belongs to the family Clionaidae and is a member of the order Clionaida. It is a sessile sponge found in tropical waters of the Indo-West Pacific region. This species can be encountered at depths ranging from the surface down to 100 meters. As a member of the class Demospongiae, Spheciospongia inconstans is hermaphroditic, meaning individuals possess both male and female reproductive organs. The life cycle includes a free-swimming parenchymella larva stage, which eventually settles on a substrate to develop into a mature sponge. The species is noted for its sessile lifestyle, attaching itself to various substrates in its habitat. Divers may find it on coral reefs, rocky reefs, reef walls, and reef slopes, where it remains harmless to humans.
