Doubtful Sound

Fiordland, Southland

Rock lobster and scarlet wrasse inhabit crevices along the walls. Black coral trees (Antipathes fiordensis) grow from as shallow as eight metres here, decades old and hosting tiny commensal shrimp. Resident banded wrasse share the habitat with Jason mirabilis nudibranch, and red coral appear along the reef margins.
