Gota Abu Galawa

Abu Galawa Reef, Red Sea, Egypt

A coral pinnacle rising from 20 m to just below the surface ~1 hour northeast of Hurghada in open water — a compact but dramatic dive. The pinnacle is cone-shaped with dense soft coral cover on all faces, a resident school of glassfish inside the main overhang at 15 m, and regular visits from large Napoleon wrasse and foraging turtles. The surrounding sand flat holds bluespotted rays and occasional leopard sharks (seasonal). Exposed to wind and current; typically dived only on calm days. Intermediate-plus; the reef top is shallow enough for a long safety stop.
