A 600-ft British Royal Navy aircraft carrier — the world's first ship designed from the keel as an aircraft carrier, commissioned 1924. Sunk by Japanese dive bombers on 9 April 1942 off Batticaloa, Sri Lanka during the Indian Ocean Raid with the loss of the captain, 19 officers and 288 ratings. Lies on her port side at 52-53 m, approximately 45 miles northeast of Batticaloa. Designated British war grave. Technical trimix dive; requires specialized expedition operations.
